Pre Appointment Prep
Welcome to SMUG! To help you achieve a flawless, long-lasting glow! To make the most of your appointment and get gorgeous results that last up to 7-10 days, please follow these Pre-Appointment Prep Tips:
1. Two Days Leading Up to Your Appointment:
- No acne treatments or retinol.
- No sunburn for 4-5 weeks prior to your tan.
- Shower with clear gel body wash. Our recommendation is the Native brand.
- Avoid bar soaps or creamy body washes like Dove, Irish Spring, Bath & Body Works, Olay, Dial, Nivea, Suave, etc., both before and after your appointment. Creamy white soaps can leave a barrier on your skin that affects your results.
2. Exfoliate:
- Dry brushing is great for pre-application prep. Use a dry brush and rub all over your body in circular motions on dry skin before showering.
- Exfoliating mitt: We carry these in-house as another option. Both
methods help remove dead skin cells, helping your tan last longer.
- Armpits: Scrub for a full 30 seconds. Deodorant sticks to the skin and does not remove easily. Avoid wiping deodorant off the same day
as your appointment.
3. Hair Removal and other beauty services:
- Waxing, sugaring, shaving, or threading should be done 24-48 hours before your appointment. If shaving, we recommend men's razors as they are sharper and don't have a moisture bar that leaves a film on your skin. Avoid hair removal creams.
- Nails: Manicures and pedicures should be done at least one day before your application.
- Lashes: Eyelash extensions, lifts, and tints should be done at least one day before your application.
- Moisturize: Hydrate your whole body in the days leading up to your appointment, paying special attention to dry or rough areas like your knees, elbows, and knuckles. Be mindful to use a spray tan safe moisturizer as to not block the tan. We recommend Hempz or Aveeno creams. We carry Hemp Nation for you to purchase in house.
4. On the Day of Your Appointment:
- Beauty routine: Do not shower. If you must, use water only, at least four hours before your appointment. Do not apply moisturizers, deodorants, or perfumes. If getting your face sprayed, do not arrive with makeup. Avoid acne treatments or retinol for 2-3 days before your tan.
- Clothing: Wear big, loose, long black clothing, to protect your skin post spray tan. Our SMUG solutions will rinse out, but it's best to wear dark colors. Keep it baggy to avoid skin-on-material contact, which will help protect your tan until your first rinse.
- Undergarments: You can strip down or cover up based on your comfort level. Bras, thongs, briefs, and bathing suits are all great options. If you choose to go nude, avoid putting a bra back on.
- Footwear: Wear slip-on sandals or boots, if weather permits, for your convenience. Crocs are perfect as they won't leave harsh lines on your feet.
